BlogHer Nerves

I am one of those individuals who scores exactly halfway between introverted and extroverted on those silly tests one takes.

I think this makes me uniquely suited to blogging. I have ample opportunities of connecting with and talking to other people, without any of that face-to-face contact that is just so Last Century, and somewhat overwhelming, to boot.

However, my intro/extroversion also means that I have been alternately excited and nervous beyond belief about attending my first BlogHer conference.

I mean, on the one hand, people! Potential friends! Fellow writers!

On the other hand, people! Possible awkward conversations! Making eye contact!

So, as I generally do when I'm nervcited about something, I completely and utterly ignored it. Yes, I dutifully saved all the attendee information emails that BlogHer sent me. Yes, I jumped up and down and shrieked a little bit when I read that Obama would be speaking to the conference. Yes, I made all the arrangements for travel and lodging and so on.

But here it is the day before the conference is to begin, and I have only the vaguest sense of what to expect. I've only glanced at the agenda for the weekend. I don't really know who will be here and what they will be talking about.

In short, I have not studied for this test.

My hope is that there will be other exintrovert procrastinators in attendance. We can look slightly awkward and overwhelmed together and laugh a little over the fact that we really didn't prepare for this.

And if all else fails, we can hit the sauce.

  2. Hi, we met during the speed dating part of BlogHer. I felt a little socially challenged at the conference, but I survived and came home swag-free. Nice to meet you briefly!
